Are We Overprotecting Our Kids to Death? « FreeRangeKids

Are we as summer camps overprotecting our campers?  Do parents expect too much safety?  Should we just start running a bubble camp – with only kids in bubbles – no way for injury or for learning? Am I cynical?

Many times I have started to write an article called: “How safe is too safe”…

Camp is for learning, camp is for fun.  For children to learn they need to sometimes be placed in new situations and the learning will take more affect if they are in the new situation and they feel a sense of fear while learning.  I can tell you over and over not to touch a hot stove, but the first time you do it you will remember forever.

Just some thoughts.  Check out the article that got me thinking today: Are We Overprotecting Our Kids to Death? « FreeRangeKids
