Basketweaving Session Information – June 6

Hey there!  Lead some great sessions today on Basketweaving at the Cross Conference Training Day in Woodstock, Ontario today.

Here is some of the information and websites to help you continue with a basket weaving program for your camp.

I bought my reed at MacPherson Arts & Crafts which is located in St. Mary’s, Ontario – they ship across Canada.  For the project that I did we used #3 round reed.

Here is a handout about basket weaving that I got from the Buckeye Leadership Workshop.  The basket we made today is on page 8 of the pdf.

Basket weaving is an inexpensive activity for camp – requires only reed and patterns – which you can find online.

Let me know if you have any questions.

Some important points to remember about basket weaving from today’s session:

  • always weave wet
  • the starting of the basket is the hardest
  • keep packing down the reed as you weave to get a tight weave.
  • bend the weaver around the spokes
  • don’t be afraid to try new things

Thank you again for teaching me how to basketweave! Not only am I going to include it in our craft program at camp, but I am going to use it this weekend at my family reunion. I always do some sort of craft and I think this will be great for everyone! Plus it will give me a chance to teach other people how to do it.

Thanks again for the great idea!!!!
