Day 4 – Camp Director Check-In

So day four of the summer is here and almost gone. Started looking for
a cook for the summer after losing ours to cancer treatment.

Finished off CIT name tags today so they could design and paint them.
Worked with staff to get more people playing guitar at chapel. Spent
rest hour playing songs with various. Embers of the staff. The end
goal is to have more people who can play guitar at chapel and so that
I can move on to playing banjo at chapel. It is great to have more
staff playing and today we added a hand drummer as well.

Worked with staff on communication during our staff construction
session. I don’t think I have explained our “staff construction”
sessions. Years ago we were looking for a session title for our team
building sessions. We decided that we were building a staff team and
so we decided on staff construction as our title – it is one of the
most important components of our staff training – to teach the staff
how to work together, how to work with their cabin groups and how to
work with people in general.

Today we worked on communication doing a classic game called
“Interference”. One group is trying to get a message to another group
while the group in the middle is trying to make sure that the message
does not get through. It is always a solid exercise that gets the
staff talking about communication and how to improve communication.

Now I’m home, in bed, trying to get rest to get my throat back to a
normal feeling. It has been scratchy and I’ve been tired. Need to have
an early night tonight to get ready for tomorrow.

The staff team is coming together well and looks great. It is shaping
up to be a great summer.
