Day 57 – Camp Director Check In

So it is now officially four more days until the end of the summer for Pearce Williams 2011.

We start the Family Camp Project tomorrow – a camp program for local families from Elgin and St. Thomas who are on Ontario Works.  This program is funded by the Westminster College Foundation – we appreciate their funding and continued support for our program.
We finished up our end of summer staff trip today.  This year we decided to stay close to home and work on trying to understand the needs of our local community and how they affect us and how those needs affect our camp as well.  It was a great two day event lead by Micheal Shewberg and Hilary MacDonald from the Go Project.  I think that it really opened up some of the thinking of our staff members and CIT’s.  It was a great couple of days and a great way to help the staff members from Pearce Williams Christian Centre take change out into the world.  Micheal showed us a great video on the danger of “A Single Story” as well – which everyone who works with children should watch to help us understand the danger in thinking through the lens of a single story.
We had a great time this weekend.  I’m just a bit tired from sleeping (or not sleeping) on the floor of the gym at a church.
Four more updates…should I keep them going through the rest of the year?  Let me know…
