What I think about when I think about camp…

Camp is such a huge part of my life – it is essentially my entire life.

Since I was a very young child I have gone to summer camp. At age 3 my mother took me to camp for a week when she was the camp nurse at Kenesserie Camp. Kenesserie is what I call my home camp – the camp that I grew up at and the camp that shaped me to be the person that I am today.

I often wonder what people who did not grow up with camp have as their defining life shaping experience.

The experience of summer camp is such a powerful force in the lives of so many people.

It is sometimes difficult for me to try and think like the majority of people in this world who do not live summer camp every day. I want to understand how to better tell our story – the story of summer camp – to them so that they understand the value of camp to their children, their community and their society.

What story do people hear? What story do we think we are telling about summer camp?
