It is now 2 weeks into our Australia journey. Remember for semi-daily audio updates visit our Spreaker Page. You can click on the episode links there to get anything that you have missed – this is a audio podcast that we are doing.
We are in Mapleton, Queensland at the QCCC Mapleton Centre. They have been gracious hosts and allowed us to stay Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday nights.
It has been great to stay here, tour the facility, eat the food and use it as a home base for a couple of days. Mapelton sees up to 200 students each day in three day rotations – meaning that, like many outdoor education centre’s in Australia – one set will come in on a Monday morning and another set will come in on at Wednesday. Each set can be up to 3 schools in some places – like here at Mapleton. This is the core of their business – a school culture that does camp trips with each grade level starting in Grade 3.
Yesterday we also toured Luther Heights Camp, and Alex Park Camp. Both were similar to Mapleton – but different. We enjoy walking around the various sites – talking to the directors and learning about the program and facilities.
The main take away is the ideas. The idea of what camp can be and the simple changes that we can make to make it better.
I will try to upload more photos to my Flickr site – so you can see them.
