Camp Palmer – Working at another camp…

Vesper Point Kenesserie CampA friend of mine from Ohio, Chuck Wurth, recently sent me an email to say hello and wondered if there were any Canadian staff who might be interested in working for him at Camp Palmer.  It got me thinking about the value of moving camps as a young staff member to gain more experience.

I spent my camping life at Kenesseire Camp, starting when I was 3 years old – my mother was the camp nurse – to the year i graduated high school.  It was a magical place for me and still is.  I moved on after a summer of working for my brother – I don’t think that either of us knew what to expect with him as Director – but it ended up being a great step on my camping journey.

I spent my first summer away from Kenesserie at  Woodeden Easter Seals Camp and it was  a great learning and growing experience.  Since then I have worked at four other camps and would not be where I’m at in camping without those experiences.

It is difficult for camp directors to let staff  go somewhere else for the summer, but for the staff it can be the best experience that you can give them.
