Day 32 – Camp Director’s Check In

Great day at camp – first full day of primary camp – the kids are loving it and the leadership campers are helping and learning.  Wilderness Jr. is keeping quiet up in the hills.

Wandering around camp tonight I noticed that our clothes line was down outside Cabin C.  I thought – that must of just happened – because someone would have mentioned it to our Maintenance man if it had happened a while ago and it would have been fixed…
But, I came to find out that it has been that way for a while.  Now it is a small thing – the clothes line – but it lends itself to the thought of, “How to we get our staff to truly SEE camp in the same light that we as Director’s do?”
At Pearce Williams we focus on giving the campers the most amazing camp experience.  Our staff do and amazing job at this and we work hard on this each day.  How can we have our staff understand that part of the camp experience is seeing and fixing the things that are broken or not working.  People have walked by that clothes line for weeks – and everyone must have thought, if they thought about it at all, someone else must know about this and has told someone who can take care of it.  Reality is that no one did.
What does this all mean?  It might mean that I’m digging some post holes tomorrow for clothes line poles…
