I’m not sure if everyone does this – but I get to a point in my summer where I really need to clear off my desk.
Today is that day.
All over my desk and walls are little notes that I have made with ideas, thoughts or things I want to remember.
So today – you get some of those thoughts:
- FOTAY – This idea came off the CampHacker podcast from Dan Weir at Frost Valley and potentially originally from Scott Arzella. It is the idea of having a session which is labeled FOTAY – Figure Out The Activity Yourself. From what I understood you would give a pile of supplies and the cabin groups would have a few minutes to come up with a game and then play it for the rest of the session. Love the idea – moves a cabin free time to another level.
- Notebooks – this idea came from Gab from Camp Oureau. She had her staff carry around a notebook at an camp open house and had the counsellor write down anything that a parent told them about their child. This proved to be very eye-opening to the parents who made comments to Gab about how engaged her staff where and how attentive they were. Great idea for any summer camp staff.
- Found The Sports Book sitting on my desk as well – a great resource for basic rules and instructions for all of the sports you can think of – from soccer to fencing to bandy
That is it so far today. Working away on getting the rest of the desk cleared and getting head shots of all of the girls done. The sound of laughter and screaming campers is coming in the window as the breeze blows in as well – it should be a bit cooler today…no rain yet.
