So last night we called 911. Our camp called 911.

So last night we called 911. Our camp called 911.

And our staff rocked it. Everything that I hoped our staff would do, they did.

Camper/Volunteer fell, we called 911. Everyone is safe and back at camp after a visit to the hospital.

We train our staff each summer for so many things – how to deal with kids, how to talk to parents, how to respond in emergencies, how to lead archery, how to give kids the most amazing summer of their life. We train them, then we set them free to go and do.

Last night they did all that was expected of them.

As a Camp Director we can train and train and train our staff. We hope that when our staff are leading a cabin group by themselves, away from everyone else, that our lessons and our teachings are being put into action. As a Camp Director we cannot be there all the time and we have to trust in our team to do as we ask.

Last night our lessons and our teachings were put into action. Our staff calmly dealt with a difficult situation. Our staff reacted with the proper amount of concern, attention and emotion.

We debriefed it today, the staff had many good things that happened, the staff also saw many things that we could do different to be better the next time this happens.

We always want to get better – but last night our staff did just fine. It makes my job as a Camp Director easier when I have such amazing staff.
