Thursday Camp Song – The Farmer & the Maiden

Just a note – this song has not been sung or taught to any campers I’ve dealt with since 1991, for reasons which will become clear in a minute…

The farmer and the maiden
They were courtin’ mighty fair
Down by the garden and
They didn’t know I was there
Well, the farmer he was bashful
And the maiden she was shy
And when he asked her if he could
This was her reply:

“You can do it if you want to,
But you better do it right
You better not do it like you did the other night
Cause if you do, I’m telling you
I’ll never let you do it again…
I mean the washin,
I’ll never let you do it again…

And there was granny,
Swinging on the outhouse door
And then the door broke
Sittin on the outhouse floor
And then the door broke
Sittin in the poo-poo-pido.
Wooh!

It is wonderful that you put this song on the net. I had sung it with vigour 40+ years ago with the boy scouts. The last verse was a little different than the one you have published
    And there was granny
    swinging on the outhouse door
    without her nighty
    waitin’ for the garbage man
oh Granpa could you ask for more
    ten dollars, please
